Doctors & Staff
Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and team who make Harbor Eyecare Center the leading provider of eye care products and services in Exeter.
Jackie O’Brien, O.D.
Dr. Jackie joins Harbor Eyecare Center following her graduation from the New England College of Optometry in 2024. She provides full-scope optometric care, including comprehensive eye exams, contact lens fittings, and the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases.
In addition to her passion for primary eye care, Dr. Jackie has a strong clinical focus in low vision rehabilitation and care for individuals with special needs. She completed a
residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation at NECO, where she gained extensive experience working with patients with visual impairment, developmental disabilities, and
complex medical conditions.
During her training, Dr. Jackie provided care at the VA Hospital in Manchester, Perkins School for the Blind, and Boston Medical Center. She also conducted research on the
impact of social determinants of health on access to low vision services.
Dr. Jackie is well-versed in advanced low vision tools, including bioptic telescopes and adaptive technologies, and tailors her approach to meet the unique needs of each
patient. Whether addressing everyday visual concerns or developing individualized strategies for those with vision loss, she is committed to providing thoughtful, patient-
centered care.
“I love helping patients maximize their vision beyond glasses. I take a holistic approach to care and enjoy finding creative, effective ways to help people achieve their visual
goals and maintain their independence.”
A New Hampshire native, Dr. Jackie enjoys spending time at the beach, hiking, and skiing when she’s not in the clinic. She is currently accepting new patients for both primary care and specialty low vision services.
Nikolas Moore, O.D.
Harbor Eyecare Center welcomed Dr. Nikolas Moore to our team in 2020 after he graduated from The New England College of Optometry. His doctoral training included patient care at the VA in Bedford, East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, Lynn Community Health Center, Martha Elliot Health Center, and others.
Dr. Nik is interested in neuro-optometry, ocular disease, and family eye care. “My goals are to treat patients with respect and compassion. I want patients to feel totally comfortable under my care and that of the staff here at the Harbor Eyecare Center. I enjoy thoroughly educating patients on their specific eye-related conditions and needs. Half of medicine is education; the more a patient understands the more they can actively make choices that will better their health. I want to share my knowledge with my patients so that together we can be informed and make better and wiser decisions about their ocular and general health.”
Dr. Nik has spent most of his life in southern NH and loves living in New England. He likes to spend his non-work time outside exploring nature, whether it be hiking, swimming, boating, or fishing.
Dr. Nik works with brain injury, neuro optometry, and binocular vision care patients. Dr. Nik also provides pediatric eye care, including addressing childhood learning-related vision problems. He is also accepting primary eye care patients of any age.

She has counseled patients in methadone maintenance therapy and managed workers’ compensation insurance claims before switching careers. Dr. Meryl graduated from The New England College of Optometry and assisted with myopia management research while at the College. At this time, she provides primary care to patients of all ages. Her patients love her for being thorough in their eye exams, for her empathetic and gentle nature, and for actively listening for ways to improve her patients’ visual experience.
Dr. Meryl is from NH and lives in the local community with her family. Dr. Meryl adores her dog, an affectionate black labrador. Rinita Trahan, O.D.
Dr. Rinita joined Harbor Eyecare Center in 2016 after graduating from the New England College of Optometry. As part of her training Dr. Rinita chose to focus on custom contact lenses. These include scleral lenses, orthokeratology corneal reshaping overnight lenses, hybrid rigid/soft lenses, custom soft contact lenses, and more. Dr. Rinita is passionate about myopia (nearsighted) control in children and teens, with training in the most current techniques and options. Like all the doctors at Harbor Eyecare Center, Dr. Rinita provides infant evaluations as part of the American Optometric Association’s InfantSee program.
Our patients consistently express appreciation for her thorough explanations. She takes a holistic approach to eye care and has a focus on prevention via nutrition, lifestyle, daily habits, and more.
“I love learning all of the ways that a person’s vision is unique to them. This can be related to their daily tasks, hobbies, ocular health, and so much more. It’s a great experience to work together to determine the best visual outcome!”
After careful consideration, Dr. Rinita has made the heartfelt decision to step back from full-time patient care in order to spend more time with her young family. Harbor Eyecare Center supports her commitment to family and her decision to prioritize this important season of life. Dr. Rinita will maintain a very limited schedule, caring for her established, complex patients and those who wear specialty contact lenses. We appreciate your understanding.
Meredith Alfred, O.D.
Prior to becoming an optometrist, Dr. Meredith Alfred graduated Magna Cum Laude from Emmanuel College with a degree in Biology. She went on to get her doctorate in optometry from the New England College of Optometry where Dr. Amy served as her mentor. Her experience includes patient care at the VA in Bedford, Providence Community Health Center, Martha Eliot Health Center, and others.
Her love of optometry was originally sparked by working in a neuro-ophthalmology lab at Boston Children’s Hospital lab studying visual cognition. She was fascinated by the eye-brain connection and eager to learn more. The eureka moment, however, was when she learned how a routine eye exam can save people’s lives. From them on, she was hooked!
Dr. Meredith has a special interest in developmental and neuro-optometry. She works alongside Dr. Amy at Visual Victory Training, providing vision therapy and rehabilitation. Her goal is to help her patients overcome visual obstacles to be able to live more fulfilling lives. She strives to treat all people holistically and empower her patients to feel confident making informed decisions about their care.
Dr. Meredith is a Massachusetts native, currently residing on the North Shore. When not in the clinic, you can find her at the beach with a good book or curled up on the couch with a cat in her lap!
Sarah Hudson, O.D.
Dr. Sarah has more than 25 years of experience in primary eye care, pediatric vision care, multifocal contact lens fittings, and medical eye care. She attended the University of Vermont for her undergraduate work in Biology and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Sarah achieved board certification from the American Board of Optometry in 2013. She served as President of the New Hampshire Optometric Association for 2010.
Dr. Sarah provides infant evaluations as part of the American Optometric Association’s InfantSee program and is passionate about the growing field of myopia (nearsighted) control. She grew up in the northeast kingdom area of Vermont and has been in the seacoast area of New Hampshire since 1998.
She partnered with Dr. Amy as co-owner of Harbor Eyecare Center in 2011 and became full owner in 2020.
